Louisiana expands natural gas and LNG infrastructure

Significant expansions in Louisiana's natural gas and LNG infrastructure are underway through new industrial agreements and large-scale storage projects.

Baker Hughes and Venture Global are expanding their collaboration to advance U.S. gas infrastructure. Baker Hughes will supply gas compression systems for the Cloud Connector Pipeline project in Louisiana and provide a modular liquefaction solution, including eight modules and Chart cold boxes, to support the expansion of the Plaquemines LNG facility.

Separately, Black Bayou Energy Hub, backed by the Swiss energy trading firm Mercuria, has announced a $1.6 billion expansion of the Black Bayou salt dome. The project involves developing pipeline connections in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes to create storage caverns capable of holding 34.7 billion cubic feet of gas. Located within the Gulf Coast LNG corridor, the facility is intended to support major LNG export projects in the region and may eventually serve other energy products such as hydrogen, propane, or crude oil.
