Gulf Coast energy infrastructure expansion

Overview

Industrial growth in the Gulf Coast is accelerating due to significant investments in energy infrastructure, specifically within the petrochemical and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sectors.

In Louisiana, Black Bayou Energy Hub, LLC has announced a $1.6 billion investment to expand its headquarters in Lafayette and develop new natural gas infrastructure in Cameron Parish. This project aims to strengthen the state’s LNG corridor to meet demand from exporters, utilities, and manufacturers. The expansion is expected to create numerous direct and indirect jobs, including over 1,000 construction roles at its peak.

Further developments include a collaboration between Baker Hughes and Venture Global to advance U.S. gas infrastructure. Baker Hughes will supply gas compression systems for the Cloud Connector Pipeline project and provide modular liquefaction solutions for the Plaquemines LNG facility expansion. Additionally, the Black Bayou salt dome expansion, backed by Mercuria, involves developing pipeline connections in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes to create storage caverns for 34.7 billion cubic feet of gas. This facility is intended to support regional LNG export projects and may eventually accommodate hydrogen, propane, or crude oil.
