Loutra Aidipsou hosts European filming of Lorca's 'Blood Wedding

A major European film production adapting Federico García Lorca’s classic play “Blood Wedding” is being shot in Loutra Aidipsou, northern Evia, Greece. The film, titled “Γέρμα”, is directed by Basque filmmaker Lara Izaguirre, who selected the location after participating in the 2023 Evia Film Project organised by the Thessaloniki Film Festival.

The Greek‑Spanish co‑production brings together the local company Neda Film (headed by Amanta Livanos) and the Basque Gariza Films, with financing and support from Greek cultural programmes (EKKÖMED, ERT), the Eurimages co‑production fund and the municipality of Loutra Aidipsou. Izaguirre said, “We spent wonderful days with the Greek crew… I am very satisfied and proud of the work of both the Greek and Basque teams.” The director is modernising the 1934 drama to highlight its enduring feminist concerns, while the town’s mayor and residents praised the hospitality extended to the crew.
