Lovćen National Park faces wildfire on Štirovnik peak
A wildfire has broken out on Štirovnik, the highest peak of Lovćen National Park in Montenegro. According to reports from September 11, 2026, the firefighting effort involved ten firefighters with four vehicles, five national park wardens, and the Montenegrin Army. Strong winds have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
Researcher Božidar Proročić has criticized the state's failure to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the mountain. He called for increased accountability and better resource allocation from government leadership, including Jakov Milatović and Milojko Spajić, to ensure that nature protection becomes a genuine state priority.
