Low Sunscreen Reapplication in Brazil Amid Expanding European Sun‑care Market

A survey conducted by the IPUPO Post‑graduation program and ADA TINA in Brazil, using an online questionnaire with 287 participants between 15 May and 15 June, found that 64.5% of respondents do not reapply sunscreen during the day. While 81.3% reported using sunscreen daily, only about one‑third apply it more than once. The main reasons cited were forgetting (23.4%), practical inconvenience (20%), discomfort from some formulations (15%), and lack of time (14.7%). Respondents were aware of the risks of sun exposure, with 94.4% mentioning skin spots, 88.8% citing skin‑cancer risk, and 80.8% noting burns.

Meanwhile, an opinion piece on the European sun‑care market notes that the sector was valued at over €3.7 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach €5.4 billion by 2033. Italy leads with about €429 million in sales, followed by France and the United Kingdom at roughly €368 million each. Growth is driven by rising consumer awareness of UV risks, increasing skin‑cancer incidence, daily integration of sunscreen into skin‑care routines, social‑media influence, and stringent European regulations. The market is shifting from seasonal use to a regular, preventive daily habit.
