Lower Austria polling shows narrowing gap between ÖVP and FPÖ

A recent poll conducted by the Institute for Demography and Data Analysis (IFDD) for ORF Lower Austria indicates a narrowing gap between the ÖVP and the FPÖ ahead of the 2028 state election. The ÖVP remains the largest party at 35 percent, down from 39.9 percent in 2023, while the FPÖ has risen to 30 percent from 24.2 percent in the previous election.

The SPÖ follows at 19 percent, with the Greens at 9 percent and NEOS at 5 percent. The data suggests that a coalition between the FPÖ and SPÖ could theoretically achieve a slim majority in the state parliament, totaling 49 percent.

Despite the potential for a red-blue majority, the most preferred governing arrangement among voters remains a coalition between the ÖVP and FPÖ, supported by 35 percent of respondents. A coalition between the ÖVP and SPÖ is favored by 32 percent, while only 8 percent support an FPÖ-SPÖ partnership.
