LPBank rally and pullback spurs VN-Index to close week in green

Vietnam’s LPBank (LPB) saw its shares rise more than 10% during the week, hitting a record 56,000 VND after the bank disclosed that Vingroup chairman Phạm Nhật Vượng had purchased 146.2 million shares, representing about 4.9% of the capital. The investment, made with personal funds, attracted significant buying pressure, lifting the VN‑Index by 8.84 points (0.47%) to close at 1,871.91.

The rally ended on June 26 when LPBank fell 5.36% to 53,000 VND, breaking a nine‑session uptrend. The broader market was buoyed by gains in major stocks such as VIC, VHM and several banks, while liquidity on the HoSE remained strong. The week also featured the State Bank of Vietnam’s new circular raising the allowable short‑term funding ratio for banks from 30% to 40%, a move expected to support financing for large infrastructure projects.
