Reports have emerged alleging that the children and relatives of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador have leveraged political influence to secure lucrative business contracts and positions of power. According to an investigation by Proceso, the former president's sons—José Ramón, Andrés Manuel, and Gonzalo López Obrador—expanded their business activities in sectors including pharmaceuticals, energy, mining, and telecommunications following their father's ascension to the presidency in 2018.

The reports suggest that this influence persists despite the conclusion of the administration in 2024, potentially due to the former president's continued political presence. While President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Prosecutor's Office have denied any judicial investigations into the family, the publication notes a perceived distancing between the current administration and the former president's children.

In a related development, Pedro López Herrería, a nephew of the former president, has faced public scrutiny regarding his role as an advisor for the Veracruz Secretary of Government. Controversy arose following his social media posts showcasing luxury travel and high-end goods, which critics contrasted with his reported government salary. While his base pay is approximately 6,509 pesos monthly, total monthly compensation including extra gratifications reaches roughly 27,583 pesos. The Veracruz Secretary of Government, Ricardo Ahued, has defended Herrería, asserting that he performs legitimate duties and that his family ties should not be used to discredit his work.
