Former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has returned to Mexico City after staying in a secure location in Palenque. The move follows concerns regarding a potential United States investigation into his son, Andrés López Obrador.

Reports indicate that efforts were considered to relocate his son to a country outside the reach of the United States government. While Russia and China were evaluated as potential options, it is suggested they may have declined to avoid a proxy war with Washington. Other nations, including Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Brazil, were deemed unsuitable.

Officials also reportedly contacted South Africa to explore the possibility of relocation, though the idea was rejected. Ultimately, the plan to move him was abandoned due to concerns that fleeing would be perceived as an admission of guilt and provide evidence of complicity in alleged illicit activities.
