LPG consumers in India face new e-KYC requirements for subsidies
Domestic LPG consumers in India are facing new requirements for Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC to maintain access to subsidized gas rates. Major oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, have implemented this verification process to ensure transparency, prevent duplicate registrations, and curb the illegal marketing of subsidized cylinders for commercial use.
While initial deadlines were set for August 16, 2026, some reports indicate an extension to August 23, 2026, due to holiday-related delays. Failure to complete the e-KYC process does not result in the permanent cancellation of a gas connection, but it does make consumers ineligible for domestic subsidies. This means unverified users may be required to pay higher commercial rates for cylinder refills until verification is complete.
The process is particularly critical for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to ensure the continued receipt of direct benefit transfers. Consumers can complete the verification offline at their local gas agency or online via official mobile applications such as IndianOil ONE, Hello BPCL, or HP Pay using Aadhaar face authentication.
