LPG tanker hit by drone near Strait of Hormuz

The Liberia-flagged LPG tanker, M. T. Al Maryah, was struck by a drone while sailing eastbound outside the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Despite the strike, the vessel reported no major damage, and its main engine and power systems remain operational.

All 19 crew members on board, including nine Indian nationals, have been confirmed safe. The tanker has since anchored at Khor Fakkan.

The incident occurs amid heightened security concerns for commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf. According to the Directorate of Maritime Administration, 145 Indian seafarers are currently aboard various vessels in the Persian Gulf, west of the Strait of Hormuz. Nine vessels of Indian interest, including seven fertilizer cargo ships, have been identified for potential evacuation.
