LPPOM MUI urges businesses to prepare for mandatory halal certification by 2026

LPPOM MUI is urging micro and small enterprises (UMK) to prepare for the mandatory halal certification requirement set to take effect on October 18, 2026. Muti Arintawati, President Director of LPPOM, emphasized that business owners should prioritize using raw materials that already possess clear halal certification to simplify the application process, particularly for those using the self-declaration pathway.

Key preparation steps include ensuring production facilities are dedicated to halal processes to prevent cross-contamination with non-halal products. Arintawati noted that halal certification is not exclusive to Muslim business owners; non-Muslim entrepreneurs can also apply, provided they meet facility and production standards.

To support this transition, LPPOM has resources distributed across 34 provinces, supported by an ecosystem of 126 Halal Inspection Agencies (LPH) and approximately 2,130 halal auditors. For domestic companies, inspection processes are targeted to be completed within 15 days, subject to regulatory timelines set by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH).
