LSU adds former coach Ed Orgeron to Lane Kiffin's staff as recruiting and defense aide

The Louisiana State University football program announced that former head coach Ed Orgeron will join new head coach Lane Kiffin's staff as a special assistant for recruiting and defense. The move reunites Kiffin and Orgeron, who have a professional relationship dating back to their time on Pete Carroll's staff at USC in the early 2000s and a previous collaboration when Kiffin was head coach at Tennessee.

Orgeron, a former LSU defensive lineman who led the Tigers to the 2019 national championship, was dismissed in 2021 after a stint at Ole Miss and has been out of coaching until this hiring. LSU officials said his deep recruiting ties in Louisiana aim to strengthen the program after criticism of the prior regime under Brian Kelly. The appointment is expected to help the Tigers secure top in‑state talent and address perceived shortcomings in the team's recent recruiting efforts.
