LSU football starts fall camp under coach Lane Kiffin

Lane Kiffin’s first preseason practice for the LSU Tigers began on August 6 in Baton Rouge. The session lasted about 90 minutes, with Kiffin emphasizing a gradual ramp‑up to avoid soft‑tissue injuries. Practices will alternate between morning and evening sessions, with lighter walk‑throughs before the schedule intensifies in mid‑August.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt, a transfer from Arizona State, impressed coaches by moving well despite recovering from a foot injury. Kiffin praised his comfort with receivers and noted Leavitt’s full participation for the upcoming season. The staff also highlighted competition in the running back and wide receiver groups, with transfers such as Dilin Jonesto and veteran backs Caden Durham and Harlem Berry earning reps.

Former national‑championship coach Ed Orgeron returned to the sidelines, adding his presence to the staff’s recruiting efforts. Meanwhile, LSU expanded its Nike NIL partnership, placing eleven football players in the brand’s Blue Ribbon Elite program, giving them product, styling and media support as a new recruiting advantage.
