Hungary faces multiple administrative and legal controversies

Several developments regarding Hungarian public administration and economy have emerged. Former Swiss Ambassador István Nagy was reportedly appointed as a traveling ambassador by ministerial decision, a role that continued after his official term ended in 2020. According to Hungary in Exile, this arrangement cost taxpayers approximately 300 million forints between 2021 and 2026, with a monthly gross salary of 4.5 million forints. The appointment was reportedly kept confidential from the press and Ministry staff.

In the legal sector, former Chief Prosecutor Pál Fürcht has been suspended and faces disciplinary proceedings. The Supreme Prosecutor's Office alleges that Fürcht disclosed confidential information regarding an ongoing criminal case and made unilateral statements that damaged the organization's reputation. This follows controversies involving the ‘golden convoy’ case and alleged communications with Péter Magyar.

Regarding economic oversight, László Nagy has resigned as President of the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH). His departure coincides with a government review aimed at potentially restructuring or dissolving the authority by 2027.

Additionally, Minister István Kapitány has filed charges regarding the Kisfaludy Tourism Development Program, alleging misuse of 475 billion forints in subsidies. Furthermore, a 3 billion forint consulting contract involving former minister Tamás Fellegi is under investigation for potential breach of trust and circumventing public procurement rules.
