LTFRB opens 500 electric vehicle taxi slots in Bicol and Palawan

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has opened 500 taxi slots exclusively for electric vehicles (EVs) in the Bicol Region and Palawan. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the Philippines' public transportation system and promote environmentally friendly commuting.

Under memorandum circulars 2026-085 and 2026-089, the agency allocated 400 EV taxi slots to the Bicol Region to support economic and tourism activities, while 100 slots were designated for Palawan. These decisions follow a previous revocation of regular taxi slots in these areas to prioritize electrification. This move aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s goal of having 50 percent of road vehicles be electric.
