Philippines LTFRB transportation and electrification updates
Overview
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has introduced several measures to manage public transportation demand and promote electrification in the Philippines.
Initially, the agency announced plans to accept special permit applications for bus services to accommodate travelers during the Undas period from October 28 to November 6. Simultaneously, the LTFRB opened 8,750 Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) slots across Metro Manila, the Ilocos region, and the Bicol region, with a significant portion in Metro Manila reserved for electric vehicles.
Following these announcements, the LTFRB further prioritized electric vehicles by opening 500 taxi slots exclusively for EVs in the Bicol Region and Palawan. This allocation, consisting of 400 slots for Bicol and 100 for Palawan, follows the revocation of regular taxi slots in those areas to support the national goal of having 50 percent of road vehicles be electric.
