Lubelskie to conduct aerial rabies vaccination for wild foxes

An annual autumn rabies vaccination campaign for wild foxes is scheduled to take place in the Lubelskie Voivodeship from September 10 to 13. The operation involves dropping oral vaccine baits from aircraft over forests and meadows, as well as manual distribution by Veterinary Inspection workers in harder-to-reach areas.

The vaccine consists of brown-green cubes with a strong fish scent designed to attract predators. Authorities have issued several safety warnings: individuals must not touch the bait, as human scent may prevent foxes from eating it. If contact with the liquid inside the vaccine blister occurs, skin should be washed immediately with soap and water, and medical consultation is advised.

Pet owners are urged to exercise caution for 14 days following the distribution. During this period, dogs should be kept on leashes in open and forested areas, and cats should be kept indoors or under strict supervision. The vaccine is not intended for domestic animals and may cause gastrointestinal issues if consumed by pets.
