Lubelskie Voivodeship launches rabies vaccination campaign for foxes
Veterinary inspectors in the Lubelskie Voivodeship are launching a rabies vaccination campaign for wild foxes targeting 26 municipalities along the borders with Ukraine and Belarus. Approximately 8,400 vaccine doses, distributed in scented baits, will be manually placed by inspectors in areas where rabies outbreaks were detected this year, including the Bialski and Tomaszowski counties.
This marks the fourth additional vaccination campaign in the region this year following four confirmed cases of rabies. Three cases involved wild foxes, while one involved a cat that bit its owner. In previous regional campaigns, over 700,000 doses were distributed.
Authorities have issued warnings to pet owners, stating that cats and dogs should not be allowed to roam freely in areas where baits are placed for at least two weeks. Additionally, the vaccine blisters must not be touched; if accidental contact occurs, skin should be washed immediately with soap and water and a doctor should be consulted.
