Lublin patient uncovers 559 phantom dermatology visits tied to NFZ payments

A resident of Lublin logged into the Internet Patient Account (IKP) and discovered 559 recorded dermatology consultations and laser procedures dated from May 2021 that he never attended. The National Health Fund (NFZ) calculated that roughly 59 000 zł were reimbursed for these fictitious services.

The patient reported the discrepancy to the Lublin Regional NFZ branch, which flagged similar irregularities for other patients. A police report was filed and, since April 2025, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin‑North has been conducting an investigation into possible fraud. No charges have been filed yet, and officials note that additional victims may exist.

The case highlights challenges in detecting false medical claims within Poland’s public health reimbursement system.
