Lublin river pollution investigation reveals high mineral oil levels

Laboratory tests conducted by the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (GIOŚ) have revealed severe chemical contamination in the Czerniejówka River in Lublin. Analysis of water and storm drain samples showed massive concentrations of mineral oil, with levels reaching 44.8 g/l near the Pawia Street bridge. The pollution has resulted in significant environmental damage, including fish die-offs and the poisoning of birds.

Inspectors traced the source of the contamination to a storm drain outlet near Robotnicza Street. The presence of a yellow liquid and a strong chemical odor was noted in manholes across several areas, including Majdanek. Police are currently investigating the illegal discharge of waste into the municipal storm sewer system to identify the perpetrator.
