Lucas do Rio Verde launches health, education, and food security initiatives

The municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde is implementing several local initiatives focused on health, education, and food security.

Registration for the Outubro Rosa/Novembro Azul race opens this Thursday at 7:00 PM. The 7-kilometer street race, scheduled for October 31, aims to raise awareness for breast and prostate cancer prevention. The event offers 1,800 spots with a R$ 65 fee (waived for people with disabilities) and features R$ 46,000 in total prizes.

In education, Mayor Miguel Vaz has sanctioned Municipal Law No. 3,988 to establish a permanent policy for improving mathematics proficiency among municipal students. This follows national trends highlighted by PISA data. The program includes the ‘Matematômetro’ bi-monthly assessment and an annual Mathematics Olympiad in partnership with Unemat/Sinop.

Additionally, the city is advancing through the ‘Jornada Selo Alimenta Cidades’ to strengthen public policies for healthy food access. Having already earned the ‘Despertar’, ‘Plantar’, and ‘Germinar’ seals, the municipality is now preparing for the ‘Crescer’ stage to further support local food systems and family farming.
