In 2025, the city achieved a record score of 6.9 on Brazil’s Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) for the early years of elementary school, surpassing both the national (6.1) and state (6.3) averages. The city also earned the fifth-best rating among Mato Grosso municipalities for the later years of elementary education with a score of 5.2. Mayor Miguel Vaz described the achievement as a “birthday present” for the municipality.

To sustain this momentum, the municipality formalized a partnership with Grupo Empreendedor Mato Grosso em Evolução (GEMTE) to implement a ten-year Strategic Plan for Municipal Education. This initiative focuses on strengthening management within the Municipal Education Secretariat, expanding early childhood education vacancies, ensuring age-appropriate literacy, and integrating educational technology into classrooms. The plan also prioritizes inclusive education and the strengthening of management teams.

Furthering these goals, the city signed a R$ 2.1 million contract to expand the Marcelino Espíndola Dutra Municipal School, adding seven classrooms and six bathrooms to address capacity limits. Additionally, the Secretariat of Education has launched specialized training for teachers and coordinators in Specialized Educational Service (AEE). In partnership with FTD Educação and the Stimulus psychomotricity academy, this program utilizes psychomotricity to support neurodivergent students, specifically those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, to help manage emotional dysregulation and promote development.
