Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to open in Los Angeles

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is set to open to the public in Los Angeles on September 22, 2026. Located in Exposition Park, the privately funded institution cost approximately $1 billion to develop.

Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, the futuristic building features a white, organic structure intended to resemble a cloud or a spaceship. The facility spans roughly 28,000 square meters and includes over 30 galleries, two cinemas, a library, and various dining options. The museum's collection includes more than 1,300 pieces from George Lucas’s personal archives, ranging from Star Wars memorabilia and concept art to works by artists such as Frida Kahlo, Norman Rockwell, and Banksy.

George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, noted that the project took nearly two decades to realize, involving multiple potential locations including San Francisco and Chicago before settling in Los Angeles. The museum aims to celebrate the power of visual storytelling by placing diverse forms of art—from comic books and illustrations to fine art—on equal footing.
