Lucasfilm announces 2027 Star Wars IMAX releases

Lucasfilm has announced major theatrical releases for 2027 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise. The original 1977 film, ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’, will return to theaters in a restored format. For the first time in its history, the film will be presented in IMAX, with a release currently scheduled for February 19, 2027.

Following the anniversary re-release, the studio will debut a new feature film titled ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’. Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, the film was specifically designed for large-format viewing and was captured using IMAX-certified cameras. For select theaters, the production will include 70mm film prints. ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is slated to premiere on May 28, 2027.
