Italian Lega warns electoral reform at risk over preference amendment

The Lega party has publicly opposed a proposed amendment on preferential voting that was raised by the leader of Fratelli d'Italia, Galeazzo Bignami. Lega spokesperson Igor Iezzi warned that if the amendment is approved, “the reform will be at risk.” The party therefore plans to withhold any amendment of its own on the issue.

Parliament’s deadline for submitting amendments on the electoral law has been pushed back to 6 July, just before the scheduled parliamentary vote. The debate also covers other contentious points, such as the overseas constituency, student voting procedures, electronic voting security, and the criteria for exempting signature collection, all of which remain unresolved.
