Lucca to host Guinness World Record flower carpet on its historic walls

On 22 August 2026, the city of Lucca, Italy, will stage a four‑kilometre flower carpet on its famous city walls in an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record held by Huamantla, Mexico (3.9 km). The event, called the “Festival Arti Effimere Guinness Edition Lucca 2026”, is organised by the Associazione Tappeti di Segatura di Camaiore and supported by local officials, including Lucca’s tourism assessor Remo Santini and provincial president Marcello Pierucci.

The exhibition involves participants from five nations – Italy, Belgium, Malta, Spain and Mexico – and delegations from 13 cities across three continents. About 100 artists and more than 250 staff will create 15 floral panels depicting Lucca’s history and culture. It also promotes Italy’s UNESCO candidacy for the “Tappeti floreali di arte effimera” project.
