Lucca Guinness flower carpet festival

The city of Lucca, Italy, is preparing a large‑scale flower‑carpet exhibition on 22 August 2026, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest temporary carpet. Organized by the Associazione Tappeti di Segatura di Camaiore and backed by local officials, the event will cover four kilometres of the historic city walls, surpassing the current record of 3.9 km held by Huamantla, Mexico. Participants from Italy, Belgium, Malta, Spain and Mexico, as well as delegations from 13 cities across three continents, will create 15 floral panels portraying Lucca’s heritage.

In the lead‑up to the festival, the Infiorata di Taurianova, a traditional flower‑carpet event from southern Italy, received an official invitation to join the Lucca festivities. Representatives from the Pro Loco Taurianova will contribute to the record‑attempt, presenting a sketch of their design and adding to the multinational roster of artists and masters of ephemeral art who will transform Lucca’s walls into an open‑air museum.

Both announcements emphasize the cultural celebration, the collaborative international effort, and the promotion of Lucca’s UNESCO candidacy for its ephemera‑art carpet tradition.
