The city of Lucca, Italy, successfully set a new Guinness World Record for the longest carpet of ephemeral art during the ‘Festival Arti Effimere Guinness Edition Lucca 2026’. Held on 22 August 2026, the event saw the historic city walls transformed into a vast open-air canvas, surpassing the previous record of 3,939.53 metres held by Huamantla, Mexico.

The monumental installation was the result of a massive collective effort involving hundreds of artists, masters, and volunteers from thirteen cities across three continents. The project, curated by the Associazione Tappeti di Segatura di Camaiore and supported by the Municipality of Lucca, utilized materials such as flower petals, salt, sand, sawdust, and vegetables to create the installation.

The Infiorata of Taurianova, representing Italy’s Calabria region, played a central role in the international collaboration. Local representatives noted that the achievement demonstrates the community’s passion and the capacity for local traditions to reach a global stage through international cooperation. The festival also continues to support Italy’s UNESCO candidacy for the ‘Tappeti floreali di arte effimera’ (Ephemeral Art Flower Carpets) project.
