Lucca's Sant'Anna Festival Celebrates Patron Saint with Procession and Blessings

The Sant'Anna neighbourhood of Lucca will mark its patron saint, the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, on 26 July. The celebration aligns with Pope Francis' endorsement of the World Grandmothers Day, emphasizing the role of elderly women in families.

Morning masses are scheduled for 09:00 and 11:30, each concluding with a special blessing for pregnant women, grandparents and seniors. The 19:00 mass in the auditorium has been cancelled. An evening solemn Mass will be presided over at 21:00 by Monsignor Fausto Tardelli, emeritus bishop of Pistoia and Pescia. At 22:00 a procession will carry the statue of Sant’Anna through viale Puccini, via Don Minzoni, via Cavalletti and via del Tiro a Segno, accompanied by volunteers, confraternity members and the drums of the City’s Flag‑bearers and Musicians Group. The route ends at the Aquila Sant’Anna sports field for a final blessing, followed by convivial festivities with fireworks, ice‑cream and drinks.
