Lucid and Bolt partner to deploy 25,000 autonomous robotaxis

Lucid Group and Bolt have announced a partnership to develop and operate autonomous vehicles, aiming to deploy at least 25,000 robotaxis across Europe and the Middle East. The project leverages Lucid’s automotive technology and Bolt’s mobility service expertise, with a long-term goal of reaching 100,000 autonomous vehicles by 2035.

The vehicles will utilize Level 4 autonomous driving technology, supported by the NVIDIA Hyperion architecture. While Bolt will manage fleet operations, software, and user experience, Lucid will focus on artificial intelligence, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and digital functions through its Lucid Technologies unit.

The prospect of widespread autonomous deployment has raised concerns among ride-hailing drivers regarding job security. During a mobility conference in Lisbon, industry experts noted that while full autonomy may only replace human drivers in several decades, the transition will likely be gradual. Currently, small-scale autonomous deliveries are already occurring in Estonia, though systematic implementation in Portugal has not yet been established.
