Lucid Motors pushes Cosmos midsize EV launch to 2027 amid operational reset
Lucid Motors CEO Silvio Napoli announced that the company’s midsize Cosmos SUV will not launch until the second half of 2027, pushing back the original late‑2026 target. The delay is part of an “operational reset” aimed at avoiding past quality‑related launch mistakes. Lucid is cutting costs to save about $1.4 billion in 2026, including a roughly 18 % reduction in its U.S. workforce, a shift from two production shifts to one at its Arizona plant, and reductions in inventory and capital spending. The company reported a Q2 2026 net loss of more than $1 billion on revenue of $405 million, and its shares fell 8‑15 % after hours. Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Lucid says it has $3 billion in liquidity that should carry it well into 2027. Production of the Cosmos is slated to begin early 2027 at the AMP‑2 plant in Saudi Arabia, with a ramp‑up in the second half of the year. Lucid is also prioritising its robotaxi programme, planning to deliver about 100 pre‑production Gravity‑based vehicles to Uber and Nuro by year‑end.
