Lucknow faces flooding as Gomti River water levels rise
Rising water levels in the Gomti River have caused significant flooding across residential and commercial areas in Lucknow. The inundation has reached upscale colonies, forcing many families to evacuate their homes for safer locations or seek temporary accommodation in local hotels.
Water overflow has impacted major landmarks, including the Ekana Stadium and the Phoenix Palassio Mall areas. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) responded by constructing emergency check dams using JCB machines and boulder pitching to control the flow. While the river level was measured at 107.24 meters—1.26 meters below the warning level—backflow in drains caused flooding on the Shaheed Path service lanes.
To manage the crisis, the LDA has implemented 24/7 monitoring with engineers deployed in three shifts. Authorities have also issued a toll-free helpline and specific contact numbers to assist residents. Traffic police are monitoring key junctions, such as the Ekana intersection and Palassio crossing, to ensure services remain functional despite the waterlogging.
