Gomti River flooding inundates Lucknow neighborhoods

The Gomti River has breached its banks in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, causing significant flooding in low-lying areas such as Faizullaganj and Mallahi Tola. The river's water level has reached approximately 108.14 meters, which is about eight feet above normal levels. The flooding has inundated homes, shops, and vehicles, destroying personal belongings and livelihoods for many residents.

In response to the crisis, the district administration has intensified relief and rescue operations. Officials, including District Magistrate Vishakh and Joint Commissioner of Police Bablu Kumar, have been inspecting affected areas by boat. Relief kits containing food essentials like rice, lentils, and oil, as well as hygiene products and medical supplies, are being distributed door-to-door via boats. Medical camps have also been established to address health concerns such as fever and malaria.

Minister Swatantar Dev Singh noted that the region has experienced unprecedented rainfall, with nearly 25 percent of the annual rainfall occurring within a 15-day period. This level of flooding is reported to be the most severe since 2008. The Gomti Riverfront has also been closed due to waterlogging.
