Lufthansa Boeing 747 performs aborted landing at LAX
A Lufthansa Boeing 747-8, operating flight LH456 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, performed a dramatic go-around maneuver at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
During the initial approach on runway 24R, the aircraft's main landing gear briefly touched the runway. The flight crew immediately initiated a go-around, pitching the nose up sharply to regain altitude. While video footage captured by planespotters showed the aircraft's tail coming extremely close to the runway surface, subsequent checks confirmed that no tailstrike occurred and safety margins were maintained.
Lufthansa confirmed the aborted landing attempt to aviation news outlets, stating that safety is the airline's top priority. The crew successfully completed a second approach and landed the aircraft safely approximately 15 minutes later. There were no reported injuries to the approximately 360 to 400 passengers or the crew on board.
