Luhačovice spa town hit by norovirus outbreak

An outbreak of highly contagious norovirus has affected approximately 140 guests in the spa town of Luhačovice, Czech Republic. The infection, which causes symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, has been spreading since mid-July.

Miroslav Procházka, director of the Zlín Region Hygiene Station, reported that weekly cases fluctuated between ten and thirty. While laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of noroviruses in some patients, health officials have not yet identified the exact source of the infection. Testing of water and food samples has so far yielded no conclusive results.

Hygiene officials noted that while the outbreak is significant, there is currently no evidence of widespread transmission across the entire town. The infection appears to have been concentrated in specific facilities, and the operator of many local hotels, Lázně Luhačovice, reported that their recent cases were handled through standard procedures and resolved quickly.
