Luigina Vallone seeks TARI cut for Capo Piccolo tourism after swimming ban

Luigina Vallone, a municipal councilor for Fratelli d'Italia in Isola di Capo Rizzuto, sent a formal request to the town administration asking for an extraordinary reduction or total exemption of the waste tax (TARI) for all tourist‑accommodation businesses operating in the Capo Piccolo area. The request follows a swimming ban imposed on 21 July after sea‑water contamination linked to problems at local wastewater treatment plants, which has triggered a cascade of cancellations and threatens the survival of many establishments.

Vallone urged the mayor and the municipal secretariat to act urgently, describing the measure as “a extraordinary economic support to save the tourism enterprises hit by the swimming ban.” The proposal, backed by the local Fratelli d'Italia circle, will be put to a vote at the next council meeting.

The councilor emphasized that “today a concrete act of institutional responsibility is needed” to prevent the environmental emergency from turning into a broader economic disaster for the coastal community.
