Luis Arce and River Covarrubias exchange accusations in prison

Former President Luis Arce and River Covarrubias, a former aide to Evo Morales, have exchanged political accusations while detained at the San Pedro de La Paz prison.

Arce filed a complaint with the Penitentiary Regime against Covarrubias, alleging that the latter made “falacious” claims in July that falsely attributed criminal activity to Arce and his family members. In response, Covarrubias accused Arce of using his time in detention to organize meetings aimed at promoting social conflict and protests against the government. Arce’s legal counsel has rejected any involvement in planning unrest, characterizing the legal proceedings against the former president as “political” and “forced.”
