Bolivian political tensions involving Evo Morales and Luis_e

Leaked audio recordings have emerged featuring a conversation between former Bolivian President Evo Morales and his former aide, River Covarrubias, who is currently serving a sentence at the San Pedro prison in La Paz. In the recordings, Covarrubias expresses loyalty to Morales and discusses potential political shifts for 2026. Morales also reflects on his 2019 resignation, claiming he instructed military commanders “not to shoot at the people” to avoid casualties during social unrest.

Political tensions have escalated between former President Luis Arce and Covarrubias, both of whom are detained at the San Pedro prison. Arce filed a complaint alleging that Covarrubias made “falacious” claims in July that falsely attributed criminal activity to Arce and his family. Covarrubias responded by accusing Arce of using his detention to organize meetings intended to promote social conflict and protests against the government. Arce’s legal counsel has denied these allegations, describing the legal proceedings against him as “political” and “forced.”
