Argentina awards 3,900 km of national routes to private operators
The Argentine Ministry of Economy, led by Luis Caputo, has formalized the third stage of the Federal Concessions Network, awarding more than 3,900 kilometers of national routes to private operators. This move is part of the ongoing privatization process for the state company Corredores Viales S.A. The 20-year concessions cover construction, administration, maintenance, and exploitation of strategic corridors across several provinces, including Santa Fe, Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, and Salta.
With this latest stage, the government reports that over 9,000 kilometers of national routes have now been awarded to the private sector. The new contracts include the establishment of several new toll stations, notably five new stations on Route 11 in the province of Santa Fe. While the government emphasizes that these projects will be backed by 100% private investment, the decision has sparked debate regarding the focus on maintenance over the construction of new highways and the impact of new tolls on citizens.
