Luis de la Fuente nearing contract extension with Spain until 2030

Luis de la Fuente, head coach of the Spain men’s national football team, is nearing a contract extension with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that would keep him in the role until 2030. The new agreement follows his recent success, which includes winning the 2023 UEFA Nations League, the 2024 European Championship, and the 2026 World Cup.

The proposed extension would add two years to his current term, which was set to expire after the 2028 European Championship. This timeline aligns with Spain’s role as a co-host for the 2030 World Cup. Reports indicate the new deal will include a substantial salary increase, with De la Fuente expected to earn between 4 and 5 million euros per season, potentially placing him among the top five highest-paid national team coaches globally.

Negotiations involve agent Alvaro Torres and aim to secure the long-term sporting project for the national team. The extension also reportedly includes provisions for salary increases for members of his coaching staff.
