Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara to showcase prison-made art at Freedom Tower

The Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College (MOAD) will host a program featuring Cuban artist and activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara at the Freedom Tower on August 14, 2026.

The event, titled ‘Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara: nos encontramos’, will showcase prison-made art produced by the artist during his five-year imprisonment in Cuba. The exhibition includes a large-scale installation and drawings exploring themes of power, labor, loss, and self-determination. The program is designed to examine how artistic expression is shaped by confinement and its transition into public view.

Otero Alcántara is a co-founder of Cuba’s San Isidro Movement, a collective advocating for artistic freedom. Following his release and arrival in South Florida in July 2026, this public program will include a live performance and an artist conversation regarding creativity, censorship, and freedom.
