Luka Mezgec departs Jayco AlUla cycling team
Slovenian cyclist Luka Mezgec has concluded his eleven-year tenure with the Jayco AlUla professional cycling team. His final race for the Australian-based squad took place at the Gooikse Pijl in Belgium, where he finished in 85th place.
Mezgec, 38, joined the team in 2016 when it was known as Orica-GreenEDGE. Over more than a decade, he transitioned from a successful sprinter—noted for winning a Giro d'Italia stage and multiple stages in the Tour de Pologne—to one of the team's most respected road captains and lead-out specialists.
Following his departure from Jayco AlUla, Mezgec intends to continue racing exclusively for the Slovenian national team. He plans to compete in the World Championships in Montreal before officially retiring from professional cycling at the European Championships in Slovenia on October 4.
