Luka Mezgec professional cycling retirement

Overview

Slovenian cyclist Luka Mezgec has concluded an eleven-year tenure with the Jayco AlUla professional cycling team. Having joined the squad in 2016 when it was known as Orica-GreenEDGE, Mezgec transitioned from a sprinter to a road captain and lead-out specialist.

As he prepares for his final professional race, Mezgec noted that ongoing lung issues, including a loss of approximately half a liter in lung capacity, have impacted his performance and climbing ability. In his final competitive appearance, he intends to support teammates Primož Roglič and Jakob Omrizel.
