Lula warns Donald Trump against interfering in Brazilian elections

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has issued warnings against foreign interference in Brazil’s upcoming elections, specifically addressing U.S. President Donald Trump. During campaign events in Belém and Fortaleza, Lula urged Trump not to “interfere in the elections of Brazil,” asserting that the country’s democracy belongs to the Brazilian people.

Lula criticized political opponents who align closely with the United States, questioning whether voters would choose a leader committed to Brazil or a “lapdog” who “sucks up to Trump.” He also addressed the historical “inferiority complex” of Latin American leaders regarding the U.S., emphasizing his intent to maintain a “civilized” and “respectful” relationship with Washington without compromising national sovereignty.

In addition to political sovereignty, Lula emphasized the protection of Brazil’s natural resources. He stated that international entities interested in Brazil’s critical minerals and rare earths must transfer technology to the country to ensure local industrialization and development rather than mere extraction.
