Lula to Attend PT Conventions in Ceará and Bahia as Party Ramps Up 2026 Campaign

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will travel to the Brazilian states of Ceará and Bahia to attend the Workers' Party (PT) conventions that formalise the candidacies of governors Elmano de Freitas and Jerônimo Rodrigues. The Ceará convention is scheduled for 31 July and the Bahia event for 1 August, a day after the Ceará nominations are official. Lula’s presence is intended to boost the governorship campaigns, which face strong opposition from former minister Ciro Gomes in Ceará and former Salvador mayor ACM Neto in Bahia.

In parallel, PT senator Humberto Costa visited the municipality of Aliança in Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata Norte, reaffirming the party’s alliance with local mayor Pedro Freitas, who also heads the Association of Municipalities of Pernambuco (Amupe). Costa toured the town, met residents and later travelled to Vicência to discuss further investments, underscoring the coordinated effort to bring federal resources to the region ahead of the October elections. He said, “Aliança is an example of how partnership between leaders who work together changes people's lives in practice.” These activities illustrate PT’s nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle.
