Lula warns UN of potential U.S. interference in Brazil elections
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has raised allegations of United States interventionism before the United Nations, specifically regarding upcoming elections in Brazil.
Historian Vijay Prashad, director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, cited a confidential report from the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) and a letter from a group of Democratic senators addressed to the U.S. Department of State. These documents reportedly warn of a high risk of interference by the Trump administration in the Brazilian electoral process.
Concerns have been raised that the U.S. may utilize economic pressure on voters and corporations to influence outcomes in favor of far-right candidates. This follows a period of shifting political dynamics in Latin America, including a reported armed intervention in Venezuela in January 2026.
