Utility services face disruptions across Latin America and Puerto Rico

Various regions across Latin America and the Caribbean are experiencing significant utility disruptions due to both unplanned crises and scheduled maintenance.

In Venezuela, the state of Lara is facing a worsening electrical crisis. Corpoelec has implemented prolonged suspensions, with 30 communities reporting outages lasting up to seven hours. Citizen monitors reported a total of 176 hours of interruption in a single day, causing significant distress for residents and students.

In Puerto Rico, LUMA Energy is conducting extensive maintenance and resilience upgrades. These scheduled works, some funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, aim to reduce annual interruption minutes for over 50,000 customers. However, these efforts involve temporary outages in multiple municipalities lasting up to 16 hours.

In Peru, utility providers are managing service interruptions. Pluz Energía has announced scheduled power cuts in several Lima districts for maintenance, while Sedapal will suspend water services in six districts for up to 14 hours to clean reservoirs. Additionally, workers in Huánuco are protesting frequent water service failures.

Other scheduled disruptions include water service maintenance in Bogotá, Colombia, and electrical grid modernization works in various sectors of Colombia and Chile.
