LUMA Energy schedules June power outages across 21 Puerto Rican municipalities

LUMA Energy announced that on Thursday, June 18, 2026, it will carry out maintenance, upgrades and modernization work on the electric grid in 21 municipalities of Puerto Rico. The work, which includes line replacement, vegetation removal, installation of automated devices, pole‑resilience projects and substation upgrades, will cause temporary service interruptions lasting up to 14 hours in dozens of neighborhoods.

Separately, LUMA Energy denied that it has requested a tariff increase from Puerto Rico’s Energy Negotiated Board. The company said its recent filing merely reports quarterly fuel and electricity‑purchase costs as required by regulation, and does not constitute a request for higher rates. Consumer‑advocacy groups warned that any increase could raise residential electricity prices to over 29 cents per kilowatt‑hour, adding roughly $16 to a typical household bill.
