LUMA Energy upgrades Puerto Rico power grid with scheduled outages and new transformers

LUMA Energy announced that on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, it will carry out scheduled maintenance and modernization work on Puerto Rico’s electric system, causing temporary service interruptions in 22 municipalities. The work includes line replacement, pole reinforcement, vegetation removal, underground system upkeep, installation of automated equipment and hot‑spot repairs across locations such as Orocovis, Dorado, Bayamón, San Juan and others.

In parallel, LUMA has energized three new power transformers at substations in Carolina (Sabana Llana), Bayamón (Crea) and Isabela (Mora). The installations support service for nearly 782,500 customers, improve grid resilience and voltage regulation, and were funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, FEMA reconstruction funds and non‑federal capital.
