Luís Montenegro expects TAP privatization to recover state investment

Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro expressed confidence that the privatization of TAP Air Portugal will allow the state to recover its total investment of approximately 3.2 billion euros. The government is currently evaluating two final proposals from major global operators, Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, for the sale of a 44.9% stake in the airline.

Montenegro stated that the sale proceeds, combined with future dividends, are expected to gradually compensate for the public funds injected during the previous administration for restructuring and pandemic-related support. He noted that the privatization process aims to secure the airline's future by maintaining its hub and integrating its routes into a larger global group, which he believes will serve both the company and the national economy.
